Yesterday was one of those times when an absolutely essential errand that I completed left me with a gap of a couple of hours before the second absolutely essential errand. That meant I could go home, do some things, then turn around and go back into town or I could meander. I hadn’t been meandering in the Redland for a while and that struck me as the choice to make. In fact, it had been ages since I’d driven out to the Homestead General Airport and had I thought of that in time I could have tried the new food truck/Tiki Hut at the Executive Jet Center for breakfast. (I will get out there and do that). It looks like a fun set-up, but I did not get out and check the menu so I can’t report on that. I also didn’t see any skydivers as I went by them, although I don’t know what their daily schedule is.
I did make a stop at one of the newest market stands, the colorful Krome Farmer’s Market left side Northbound (approximately 23500). They opened in mid-June, and while they are small, they specialize in the red dragon fruit. Dragon fruit (pitaya) is another of those exotics (Asia) that has taken hold and thrives in this environment. They are actually a producer of dragon fruit with the field adjacent to the large Tiki Hut that is the market, and the packing area is behind them. They have the regular size fruit, the smaller version, honey, and juice from it.
Once you get inside a dragon fruit (sort of a pineapple type exterior), it is similar to a kiwi crossed with a pear. I’m not sure how other people describe it. Not many places around here carry it yet, but when you’re in the mood for a new taste, you might want to give it a try.
