Parrotheads will know the line is, “I dream of Paris when I’m high on red wine,” from Jimmy Buffet’s “Changes in Latitude” song. Actually, he mentions Paris in more than one song and he does a concert there every so often. To be honest, I’m not disputing Jimmy’s worldwide popularity, but the antics of most Parrotheads at concerts just doesn’t seem to fit Paris. Anyway, as I have posted before, we have been to Paris for Valentine’s Day twice before and it has been a few years since we’ve done so. Unfortunately, the really good bargains are no longer available, although prices are less than during peak times. The Hotel San Severin that we enjoyed was not available for this coming trip, but there was another one in the same general vicinity that sounds very similar. Even though I haven’t had hubby stay in as many sections of Paris as we could, I have a fondness for the Latin Quarter that goes back to my student days there and as long as we are near the Metro, it makes for getting around fairly easy.
I’ve booked the flight and hotel and will take care of the airport transportation and Metro/Museum passes next week to allow for plenty of time for them to be sent to us. The company that I used the last time now handle only groups of a dozen or more, but I found another one that sounds as if it should be as efficient. This is another case where it is a short trip – out on Thursday which means a Friday morning arrival with a return on Monday. That gives us Friday-Sunday in Paris and while I generally prefer not to be there over the weekend, that’s the way that Valentine’s Day runs this year. One of the aspects of dining at night is that the Parisians tend to have dinner at 9:00 and we go earlier, so I’m not concerned about waits at restaurants. And yes, it will be cold, but we can handle it for a few days.
