A slight digression from the remodel tales, although related. The scenario – kitchen cabinet doors being slammed. Question from the front room, “What’s wrong?” Response of snarled, “Nothing!” Now, everyone who has had one of these experiences knows that “Nothing!”, doesn’t mean “nothing”. The best one hopes for is that it means nothing that you have actually done, rather it is something that is a reaction to a situation in which you bear no actual or perceived responsibility.
So, our new soft-close cabinets do present two interesting points. In case you haven’t been around them yet, it is a feature that allows you to push the cabinet door and about half-way, you can take you hand off and the cabinet door very gently and soundlessly closes with no more movement on your part. It is a cool feature, although that means when we go to visit people who have normal cabinets, we’ll probably leave them half-open and be considered to be really careless. The other obvious thing is that they don’t slam. I mean I suppose I could make them slam, but aside from the fact that I have no idea what that would do to the hinges, it also just doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. Wonder if it was a husband who thought up the idea?
