Tinkering With the Pantry…..

I am not a visual person and therefore, certain aspects of the remodel are turning out to be different from what I was expecting. That’s okay for the most part and in a couple of cases, actually better. I made a mistake initially with the new pantry in not realizing that the upper shelves needed to be less deep than the lower ones. This is because when on the step stool – a requirement for much of the kitchen – having the shelves a uniform depth meant literally leaning backward to reach to the back of the upper shelf. That it not a safe motion at any time and certainly won’t be as we get older. So, it was another trip to the Container Store and then unloading much of what I had loaded, move most of the shelves we’d put in, place the new ones appropriately, then put everything in again. I understand that arranging a pantry isn’t something to really get excited about, but then again, at this stage, all progress is nice.

My lack of optimism about the cabinets being finished today was well-founded – Monday is the new target. Maybe there have been enough delays that it will indeed come about. Allegedly, there is only one day of actual work left even though it looks to me as if it will take two. On the other hand, I’ve never hung cabinet doors and it might go more quickly than I think once the process starts.
