About My Pie Safe……

Hand Crafted Pie Safe

In the process of the remodel, there were certain new items that we knew we wanted. Some like the entertainment center with the library ladder were mutual, the big television was for hubby, and I wanted a pie safe. While I would have preferred a genuine antique, that seemed as if it was going to be more difficult than I wanted to bother with. I don’t mind reproductions and I found this one through on-line, as we do with so many different things these days. The finish is more red than I expected, and in looking at the invoice, I believe they had it written down wrong. However, hubby likes it and we happen to have several pieces of art that will be going back into the kitchen that have red, so I think it will be okay. The punched tin inserts are exactly what I was looking for and even though the shelves are only about 11 inches deep, that’s okay for what I need it for.

Yes, the baskets atop it are Longaberger and that seems like an appropriate place for them. The gathering basket (used to be the bread basket) now holds napkins and napkin rings and the round basket is still the storage spot for tomatoes. You can’t tell from the photo, but the item in the middle is a clay coffee set that was a farewell gift from Puerto Rico. There is a cheesecloth strainer that you fill with grounds and pour boiling water over them into the pot. Like espresso and Turkish coffee, the cups are very small because the resulting brew is quite strong. And hey, if the electricity goes out and all you have is a fire (okay, more likely a grill), as long as you have something to boil water in, you can still have coffee.
