Losing Track of Days…..

As often happens, things are hectic enough that I don’t recall when I do a post. And just like that, five days have passed. I have a whopping hour until I leave for my next meeting and then go on to my regular Happy Hour. I have hopes the meeting will be productive, but one never knows.

In the meantime, I racked up a major good deed on Saturday, may or may not have linked the people required in trying to help sort of save a 100-year old mango tree, pulled together a cool article for this week’s paper, got the first dose of a Shingles vaccine and did a variety of other tasks. When I say sort-of save the tree, that’s because the owners have decided to take the tree down, and if all goes well, have cuttings taken to graft a tree in a different location. The Fruit and Spice Park, a county park is something unique here as it is, “the only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the United States. The Park’s tropical climate can be found nowhere else in the continental U.S. and hosts over 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, nuts and other commercially important plant specimens from around the world.” (https://www.miamidade.gov/fruitandspicepark/home.page) Although it is definitely not a flashy kind of spot, it is a place where those interested in such things can pass many pleasurable hours. A woman who has been with the park for a long time is heading up the effort if everyone gets linked together in time. I have been working on this through different angles for over a week and really hope it comes together. Aside from the fact my late father was a forester and would be proud, it will make a great article for the paper if it is successful. There is nothing else I can do to move this along.

Okay, next on the agenda is trying to nail down a meeting with two dynamic young men in order to get an update as to what they are doing with their non-profit organization. We’ve been missing each other for weeks and I hope to bring that meeting about maybe Friday or Monday. Their organization is one I have covered for the paper for maybe ten years now and always enjoy getting caught up.
